Candle Care & Safety

Candle Safety Instructions

1. Do not leave a lit candle unattended.

2. Do not move a lit candle. Allow the candle to re-solidify and completely cool before handling.

3. When lighting the candle for the first time, burn for two hours at a time or until the wax melts all the way to the edge of the vessel.

4. Do not burn a 200g candle for less than one hour and more than three hours at a time. Do not burn a 390g candle for less than one hour and more than four hours at a time.

5. Do not burn candles on or near anything flammable.

6. Container may become hot. Place the candle on a stable, heat resistant surface.

7. Keep the wicks upright and trimmed to 5mm before or after each burn to prevent smoking, large flames, and soot build-up. If the candle has more than one wick, all wicks must be lit simultaneously every time the candle is used.

8. Keep away from pets and children.

9. Leave at least 10cm between burning candles.

10. Never extinguish a lit candle with water.

11. Store the candle in a cool dry place and away from direct sunlight.

12. Stop burning when 10mm of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel.

13. Avoid draughts – keep the flame still.

14. Failure to follow the instructions could result in fire, hazard, or injury.

15. Australia First Aid: call 000 for serious burns.

16. Run cold water on burnt skin.

Candle Care Guide

1. Before each burn, remove any unnecessary burnt wick and trim the wick to 5mm above the wax top to prevent black smoke and to avoid what is known as mushrooming. We recommend using our Poesia Wick Trimmers.

2. Ensure that no wick trimmings, used matches or foreign objects are in the wax when burning the candle.

3. Avoid what is known as tunneling by allowing the wax to melt all the way to the edge of the vessel.

4. Do not use the candle if the glass is cracked, chipped, or broken.

5. Do not allow the candle flame to touch the side of the glass.

6. Stop burning the candle if it repeatedly smokes, flickers or if the flame is too high. If this happens the candle isn’t burning correctly. Allow the candle to re-solidify, ensure the wicks are upright and trimmed to 5mm and check for draughts before relighting. If the candle has more than one wick, all wicks must be lit simultaneously every time the candle is used.

7. If the glass becomes blackened while burning, extinguish the candle, let it cool and clean it with a dry soft cloth. We recommend using our Poesia Snuffer to properly extinguish the candle flame.

8. Candle burning time may vary. Fragrance, burning habits and environmental conditions may affect how long a candle will last.

9. Keep the candle in a dry and temperate environment, between 15 and 25°C.

10. FIRST use of the candle should occur within two months of purchase.
